The piece that started it all. I was a 3rd year music major at Mount Union playing in the Brass Choir under Carl H. Kandel (much to the chagrin of both my voice teacher and choral director, who felt I was spreading myself too thin). The ensemble played many transcriptions by CHK and I asked if I could try one. He not only allowed me to try, but coached and encouraged me through the process, and then allowed me to conduct the piece!
This motet by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594) was composed for SSATB. The manuscript survived five decadesĀ through a multitude of moves to twelve residences in five different states, including a devastating hurricane. I have revised it from its original state.
