Educator

Music Specialist. Tuscarawas County Schools. New Philadelphia, OH. 1975-1976

Substitute music teacher for any of the elementary, middle, or high schools within Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Gained knowledge/experience by observing different approaches to learning.

Director of Music. Conotton Valley Schools. Bowerston, OH. 1976-1981

Started as a grades 5-12 instrumental music instructor, but assumed all 7-12 vocal and instrumental nd Supervisor of Music duties the following year  Instituted a curriculum review, installed new elementary music guidelines, and created six new ensemble courses in grades 7-12.

Graduate Asst./Instructor. Arizona State University. Tempe, AZ. 1981-1983

Taught choral conducting, graduate scoring and arranging, and graduate research methods. Installed the choral library onto the ASU mainframe computer and was responsible for computer functions in the School of Music.

Director of Music. SD School of Mines and Technology. Rapid City, SD. 1983-2016

Envisioned, created, and administrated a nationally- and internationally-recognized music program for science and engineering students. Created curriculum, ensembles, courses; established funding; developed first dedicated music building on campus. Hired/supervised faculty and staff. Established scholarships and donor programs. Taught applied voice, choral ensembles, brass ensemble, general music courses.

Honors and awards include Professor of the Year for SD by the Carnegie Foundation (2013),  Outstanding Professor by SDSMT (2011), Rushmore Honors by Rapid City Chamber of Commerce (2003). Choral ensembles performed at many professional conferences and venues and won awards in international competition.

Professional

Founder/Executive Director. ChoralNet – the Internet Center for Choral Music. 1993-2012

Envisioned, created, administrated the first online social media site for choral music professionals. Hosted or assisted in the creation of websites for International Federation for Choral Music, American Choral Directors Association, Europa Cantat, and hosted online forums and resource sites for the choral profession.

Presided over Board of Directors meetings, supervised employees, raised operating funds, served as liaison with supporting professional entities.
