Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943)
arr. James D. Feiszli
Bogoroditse Devo is the last and probably best-known of the 15 movements of Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, composed for the Moscow Synodal Choir. Rich and sonorous, it lends itself well to brass performance. The original text is the Slavonic Orthodox equivalent to the Latin Ave Maria.
In 2022, I was asked to arrange music for the brass section of the Parma Symphony Orchestra for their holiday concert. This transcription was one of two created and delivered online about 20 minutes before Hurricane Ian knocked out power to southwest Florida for six weeks.
